Entry Level Courtesy

I would like to give you an insight into my week dealing with candidates looking to get their foot in the door of the Real Estate industry.

First a little bit about me, my role with RECD is to recruit all entry level, Receptionist’s, Sales PA’s, Leasing Consultant’s, and Assistant Property Manager’s looking to step up and manage their own portfolio. Therefore I am always on the look out for that perfect entry level candidate to start their career.

But how do we come across those candidates and what do we initially look for when searching for them? We look for a good attitude, an engaging and polite phone manner, a legible CV and tailored cover letter alongside transferable skills from their past work history. Not too much to ask you would think? After telephone screening the candidates, discussing potential opportunities and booking them in for internal interviews I started the week positive with over 10 entry level candidates booked in. All of these I felt all had great energy over the phone and transferable skills from other industries, they ticked all the boxes. With three entry level roles ready and waiting to be filled I was excited to meet them all!

I ended the week having had 8 out of 10 entry level candidates just simply not turn up. Each day I would be left puzzled thinking why not just send an email or give me a call to let me know you will not be attending? What has happened to good old common courtesy?

The real question is how can one candidate stand out above the rest? How can you successfully secure a role in real estate through a recruiter who genuinely has your best interests at heart?

1. Show up 10 mins prior to your interview and do not be late. You cannot be late in real estate, first impressions count and will be how you are remembered.

2. Dress in corporate attire, unless you’re arriving for a role as a PT do not turn up in your active wear.

3. Be honest with us and we will be honest with you, as an office full of women we are better than the FBI at finding out information.

4. Follow up and call us back, if you have found a job it is okay and we will congratulate you and send you a card.

It is in our best interest to find you the perfect role. We have an extended network of clients all across Melbourne in both Property Management and Sales paired with the knowledge to help you find the right opportunity. So help us help you! If you are looking for your first role in Real Estate give us a call today and email your CV across to me – [email protected].
